More details

Are you a qualified teacher in England with the flexibility to travel to schools and administer assessments? Are you seeking flexible work during term time? If so, you may be interested in joining NFER’s Associates Pool as a Test Administrator.

What does being a Test Administrator involve?

NFER’s Test Administrators (TAs) are skilled and experienced qualified teachers who play an essential role in our work. TAs are involved in a variety of projects throughout the year, administering a range of assessments in classrooms, and ensuring they are delivered to project specifications. Depending on the project and the TA’s experience, assignments can range from managing classroom assessments of Foundation Stage pupils through to Key Stage 4.

Key Responsibilities:

As a TA, you will be expected to:

- Complete training (either in person or online, depending on the project).
- Arrange assessment visits with allocated schools, communicating professionally via email.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with school staff.
- Be a professional ambassador for NFER.
- Travel to schools to administer assessments in the classroom, with support from school staff.
- Follow all test administration guidelines and/or scripts provided by NFER.
- Resolve any issues or queries schools may have, with continuous support from NFER.
- Adhere to security procedures and ensure materials are returned promptly.

We provide detailed information on each assignment, including key dates and criteria, allowing you to choose which projects you'd like to participate in.

Why join our Associates pool?

- Flexible work opportunities.
- Opportunities to work on multiple projects throughout the year.
- Full training and ongoing support from NFER.
- Development of skills and experience, with potential for repeat work.
- Opportunities to apply for other Associate roles, including marking or coding roles.

Please note, being an NFER Associate is not a guarantee of work. If you are successful in being offered a place in our Associate Pool, we will approach you as and when suitable opportunities arise that match your skills and expertise.

Rates of Pay:

Rates for test administration vary by project, and we will inform you of the pay rate for each assignment when offering you work. We typically pay £150 per administration visit to a school, including pre- and post-visit activities. We cover all travel and subsistence expenses.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking candidates who:

- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).
- Are IT-competent (some assessments are computer-based, and communication with schools is primarily electronic).
- Are willing and able to travel over 20 miles from their home address to schools (although we do aim to minimise the distance you travel).
- Have good availability for visits (including being able to visit schools at least twice a week during pre-specified testing windows).
- Have an Enhanced with Children's Barred List DBS certificate, or are willing to apply for one.
- Are legally entitled to work in the UK.

We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who have experience in Foundation Stage and/or Key Stage 1 and/or are are located in the East of England, London and the South East.

Upcoming Opportunities:

Currently, we have several projects requiring Test Administrators to deliver assessments in nursery classes and primary schools during the Summer Term of 2025.
