NFER is a leading educational research charity and as part of a Digital Transformation Programme we are enhancing our e-assessment capability.
Joining the Programme as a Maths or English subject matter lead you’ll drive the design and development of our primary education products for 7-11 year olds within your subject specialism. You will be responsible for all aspect relating to designing on-screen assessment including contributing to the writing, authoring, development, quality planning and quality control of interactions, items, tests, and assessments to time and budget.
This is a collaborative role, working with colleagues to ensure that we go to market on time and that the e-assessments are of the high-quality that customers have come to expect of NFER products.
As part of the wider research and assessment community within NFER you’ll draw upon the vast range experience and expertise from colleagues when required. You’ll work with technical teams to define specifications, lead on the design of the assessment approach, and refine user stories for diagnostic reporting and guidance ensuring its relevance to classroom practice. And although there is no direct line management responsibility this role will assist with work management, providing advice, teaching and direction to two subject matter specialists.
With a genuine interest in helping to improve outcomes for children and young people you will also have the following:
• A degree in an English or Maths subject.
• Knowledge and understanding of the assessment and curriculum of Maths or English, ideally for 7-11 year olds or GCSE level.
• Experience of working in an educational, assessment or EdTech environment.
• Experience in the design and development of assessment interactions, items, tests and assessments.
Bonus Points:
You may have been a Maths Teacher or English Teacher or have developed assessments with other organisations or awarding bodies or held other similar roles such as Assessment Specialist, Assessment Manager, Assessment Product Manager, Assessment Developer, Assessment Designer, Product Manager, Assessment Delivery Manager.

These roles are initially a 2 year FTC in line with the programme, however, as NFER continues to grow there will be opportunities for permanency at the end of the project.
