About the Role
As the Senior Education and International Development Specialist you’ll be part of the Centre for International Education and its rapidly growing portfolio of international work. You will lead research and evaluation projects to support the development of education systems, and to inform governments and donors in their policy and investment decisions. Your expertise in this field will assist NFER’s vision to support the development of education systems around the world, focusing in particular on East Africa and South Asia. Specifically, you will:
• Lead research and evaluation projects, related to key thematic areas such as teaching and learning, equity and inclusion, assessment, structures and systems and edtech
• Oversee project teams in carrying out activities in the full research cycle including designing research instruments, designing sampling strategies, conducting fieldwork, analysing data, and writing up and presenting results
• Lead on developing report outlines, and on structuring of quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis frameworks, including contributing to data analysis, argument formulation, and report drafting in line with topical and methodological expertise
• Provide technical expertise in using quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies to deliver high quality research reports, presentations, articles, etc.
• Ensure delivery of high quality projects that are on time and on budget, and manage positive client and partner relationships.

As well as the above you’ll continue to develop your own expertise in global education issues and how these could be addressed through new research and contribute to NFER’s understanding of education and international development.

Your technical background:
• Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant social science, such as education and international development, or comparative and international education
• Significant research or evaluation experience with track record of working in developing countries, or with key donors
• High level policy knowledge of education and international development sector and core understanding of key industry players and dynamics
• Advanced skills in quantitative and/or qualitative research and evaluation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a growing record of publications and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely
• Experience of leading multidisciplinary teams
